About us
We believe every person has something to say.
Spelling My Voice was founded on a simple conviction: that nonspeaking and minimally speaking individuals deserve to be heard — fully, authentically, and on their own terms.
Our mission
Communication is a human right
At Spelling My Voice, we provide Spelling to Communicate (S2C) services to individuals who have been unable to express themselves through speech alone. We work with children and adults across the autism and disabilities spectrum, who have a range of motor and communication challenges.
Our approach is grounded in respect — for the intelligence, inner life, and dignity of every person we work with. We do not assume limitations. We assume potential and presume competence.
Every session is shaped around the individual: their pace, their interests, their goals. We work in close partnership with families and carers, because we know that communication doesn't stop at the end of a session — it lives in every relationship.
Meet your practitioner
Dr. Nam Nguyen
I came to Spelling to Communicate through more than 25 years as a practicing chiropractor involved in the autistic and disability community. I saw firsthand how many individuals were being underestimated and misunderstood — not because of any lack of intelligence or inner life, but because the tools available to them didn't match their needs.
When I first encountered S2C, I saw something different: a method built on the presumption of competence, on patience, and on the belief that the person in front of you has something worth hearing. That belief has shaped everything about how I work.
Having trained with the International Association for Spelling as Communication (I-ASC), I work with individuals of all backgrounds, and I am committed to ongoing learning as the field continues to grow.
What guides us
Our values
Presumption of competence
We begin every relationship by presuming intelligence and understanding — not waiting for it to be proven. Every person we work with is treated as a capable, thinking individual.
Patience over pressure
Progress in S2C is not linear, and it cannot be rushed. We follow the speller's lead, celebrate small milestones, and never measure success by speed.
Partnership with families
Families are not observers — they are essential partners. We work closely with parents and carers to ensure communication is supported and celebrated at home as well as in sessions.
Ongoing learning
The field of S2C is growing and evolving. We are committed to staying current with research, training, and the lived experiences of the speller community.
